Carrie Fisher’s shocking death at the age of 60 has left her fans and Hollywood peers reeling, mourning the loss of the brilliant and talented star.

The actress first skyrocketed to fame after her turn as the feisty, heroic Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films. She passed away just days after suffering a heart attack while on board a flight from London to Los Angeles and is survived by her brother Todd, sisters Tricia and Joely and her daughter Billie Lourd.

The actress, who also appeared in films such as When Harry Met Sally and The Blues Brothers, was known for her sharp wit and self-deprecating sense of humour and penned several books throughout her career.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in November, Carrie spoke candidly about her life, career and her new memoir entitled The Princess Diarist.

When asked whether she was afraid of death, the outspoken actress replied, “No. I fear dying. Anything with pain associated with it, I don’t like. I’ve been there for a couple of people when they were dying; it didn’t look like fun. But if I was gonna do it, I’d want someone like me around. And I will be there!”

Carrie’s 24-year-old daughter Billie first confirmed the star had passed away in a statement released through her rep.

“It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning,” the statement read. “She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly.”

Carrie’s mother Debbie has also spoken out in a brief message posted on Facebook today.

“Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop. Love Carries Mother,” the post read.

Carrie’s co-star Harrison Ford said she would be “sorely missed” in a statement he provided to Buzzfeed News.

“Carrie was one-of-a-kind…brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless,” he said. “She lived her life, bravely…My thoughts are with her daughter Billie, her Mother Debbie, her brother Todd, and her many friends. We will all miss her.”
