George Michael has died, according to multiple reports coming out of the UK.
The award-winning singer “passed away peacefully at his home”, his publicist told the Press Association.
Police say there were no suspicious circumstances, according to the BBC.
“It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period,” the statement from his publicist said.
“The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time.”
The BBC report emergency services were called to his home in Oxfordshire at 1.30pm on Christmas Day.
He nearly died from pneumonia in 2011, and spent months recovering after doctors were forced to perform a tracheotomy to keep him alive.
Michael, aged 53, found fame as a teenager in the group Wham, before going on launch a hugely successful solo career.
He sold more than 80 million records worldwide, with seven No 1 singles in the UK and No 1 hits in the US.
The singer, whose real name was Gerogios Kyriarcos Panayiotou, was due to release a documentary about his work in 2017.
