The singer’s brother Daniel also passed away from his own battle with cancer on Saturday, two days after Celine said goodbye to her beloved husband of over 20 years.

“Battling cancer for a few years, it’s in the uttermost discretion and surrounded by his family that Daniel Dion, 59, died today, January 16,” read a statement released by Celine’s family.

“He was the eighth child of Thérèse and Adhémar Dion, brother of Celine.”

Celine’s sister Claudette spoke to the Journal of Montreal late last week, revealing her brother was fighting a similar type of cancer as Rene.

“It’s very painful. It’s a matter of days or hours. It looks a lot like Rene, he had cancer of the throat, tongue and brain,” she told the publication.

“Our family is very experienced [with this type of cancer].”

The announcement of Daniel’s passing comes during an extraordinarily difficult time for Celine, who also lost her husband Rene to the disease last week.

Rene was first diagnosed with throat cancer in 1999, and Celine was there to support him as he fought a courageous battle over the following years.

He passed away at the age of 73 at home in Las Vegas, with Celine by his side.
