Teenager shares how she got rid of severe acne – and her tweet goes viral

She looks like a different person in her 'before' and 'after' pix.

Anyone who has ever suffered from acne knows the effect it can have on your self esteem. It can take months, even years, to find a treatment that works, if you find one at all. And in the meantime, having to deal with the daily and persistent break-outs can take its toll on your resilience and confidence in social situations.

When an American teen, who goes by the name kaarle, took to Twitter to share how she got rid of her severe acne, her tweet went viral, clocking up more than 65,000 likes. The fact that it has been shared more than 13,000 times so far shows just how big an issue acne is for teens all over the world. Many asked her for her skincare routine.

The Alaska-based teen said she has struggled with acne since sixth grade, which is the age of 11 or 12 years, and tried many pills and topical treatments “that never worked for me”.

But after her mum took her to a dermatologist, who prescribed “accutans” (Accutane), she says she finally began to see a change in her skin.

According to drugs.com accutane is a form of vitamin A that reduces the amount of oil released by oil glands in your skin. Accutane is used to treat severe nodular acne and is usually only given after other acne medications or antibiotics have been tried without success.

Kaarle says, “That played a HUGE part. If you’re struggling and nothing seems to work. GO TO THE DERMATOLOGIST!!! Trust me, they knew what I needed on my first visit.”

But she also shared which skincare products she uses, and they’re not wildly expensive or hard to find. Here they are:

I use this facewash but wouldn’t recommend unless u [sic] have oily skin. I have naturally oily skin but my medication makes my skin super dry.

I LOVE my clarisonic!! I saw noticeable results in 1 week

To help get rid of my scars I tried many different brightening lotions & masks but these are the only ones I feel like I could see a huge difference with. I use the mask 3 times a week & put the moisturizer on every morning & night as usual.

Lastly for sudden breakouts I use drying lotion, I put in on at night & the pimple is usually gone by morning!

I use the rose water just for moisturizer.

Kaarle concludes by saying, “Really that’s it. I’m not an expert clearly & this won’t work for everyone… I recommend just going to a dermatologist if nothing seems to be working.”
