In 800 Words, a new family drama series set to debut on TV ONE at 8.35pm tonight, New Zealand-raised actor Erik Thomson stars as a widowed father-of-two named George Turner.
It’s a welcome return to the screen for the 48-year-old star, who most recently charmed audiences as Dave Rafter on the hugely popular Australian series Packed To The Rafters.
While his new show sees him stepping into the ‘father’ role once more, 800 Words takes Erik into new territory as he uproots his family and moves back to a small fictional beach town in New Zealand.
For Erik, a big part of the show’s appeal was its New Zealand setting, as well as the script.
“I started my career [in New Zealand] and liked the idea of going home,” he said.
“I teared up when I read the script. I had such a strong emotional reaction.”
