‘Sister Act’ star and comedian Whoopi Goldberg admits she never loved any of her former husbands. Whoopi has been married three times – to Alvin Martin (1973 to 1979), to David Claessen (1986 to 1988) and to Lyle Trachtenberg for a year between 1994 and 1995 – but says that she only wed because she “wanted to feel normal”. “I suppose that, you know, you have to actually be in love with the person you marry. You have to be really committed to them. I don’t have that commitment. It seemed to me that if I was married, I’d have a more normal life. But clearly, that’s not the case,” she says. Whoopi (55) adds that she has been in love once – with a man who wasn’t famous – and although he is currently married, the two remain close friends.
