Actress Viola Davis is relieved awards season is over.
The 46-year-old actress – who was previously nominated for an Oscar for her role in Doubt in 2008 and lost out to Best Actress for her role in The Help this year – says the pressure has a negative effect on her acting because she gets so caught up in promotion for the ceremonies.
Asked how she feels now awards season is over, she says, “Relieved! The awards buzz is the most nerve-racking thing and it has nothing to do with being an actor. After the Oscar nomination for Doubt, I went back to work in shock. You’re too busy doing all the awards promotion and you’re not acting. Then I had to go back to work, but I couldn’t remember my lines and I was overacting. It remains the worst work I’ve done.”
Viola is getting used to the attention she receives now she is a household name, but admits there are some aspects that have “thrown” her.
“I’m used to it now but I do feel I’ve lost some of my anonymity. This self-promotion thing has thrown me for a loop,” she explained to HELLO! magazine.
“Recently I chose a dress and thought, ‘I like this dress, it’s cute and it doesn’t make me feel big.’ And someone said, ‘Yeah but to this event you have to wear something by a major designer.’”
