Tamati Coffey: Love is in the air

It'a all about the power of support this week, as Tamati gives us a glimpse behind the scenes.

Just two episodes in, and we’re starting to see some fantastic characters.

This week, the act that really tugged my heartstrings was Silhouette, the married dancing duo. Talking to them backstage, it was clear very quickly that he’s the strong silent type and she does the talking.

What was also obvious is that the tough rugby player, who is also amazingly graceful, is completely devoted to his wife. When he told the judges he didn’t really dance, but was doing the show as he didn’t trust anybody else to carry her, well, there go those tears again!

Silhouette stood out from the crowd with their intricate, impressively choreographed dance routine. The married couple stunned the judges when they confessed he’s simply there because he doesn’t trust anyone to hold her.

Judge Cris Judd says dance is the best non-verbal form of communication, and these two prove just how true that is.

There were plenty of laughs, too. When tiny Ravi performed with nunchucks to the Crazy Frog song, all eyes were on him. But, as I stood backstage with his wife, what came across was just how madly in love this couple are. That’s the sort of moment that really ticks the box – seeing the relationships behind the scenes and closely observing those strong support systems.

Ravi is actually pretty amazing. Not only does he have a great sense of humour, but he’s incredibly skilled – he even starred in The Hobbit. Keep your eye on this one!

Boys will be boys! Cris and Jason’s push-up competition came completely out of the blue. One minute they’re arguing over who can do more, then the girl of the group tells them to talk less and just do it – and they were right into it. It turns out Cris can do 10 more than Jason!

Judge Jason Kerrison definitely enjoyed himself this week. He even rocked out the language of love at one point! With an Italian girlfriend, the singer’s been hard at work learning her native tongue.

It seems all the judges had a bit of fun this week – it’s a great dynamic.

NZGT isn’t a Simon Cowell-type programme, where everything is based around watching the judges argue. We like it when Mummy and Daddy don’t fight!

Catch Tamati and the judges on New Zealand’s Got Talent on TV One, Sundays, at 7.30pm.
