Rue McClanahan dies

Actress Rue ocClanahan has died at the age of 76. The actress, best known for her role as Blanche Devereaux in ‘The Golden Girls’ died of a stroke. Her manager Barbara Lawrence confirms, “She passed away at 1am this morning. She had a massive stroke.” At the time of her death, Rue “had her family with her. She went in peace”.

Rue suffered a minor stroke last November while she was recovering from bypass surgery and had maintained a low profile since then, in an attempt to make a full recovery. However her health ailments finally proved too much.

Her death leaves Betty White (88) as the only remaining member of the ‘Golden Girls’ cast following the deaths of Bea Arthur in 2009 and Estelle Getty in 2008.
