She’s played a plethora of historical roles from Julia Child to the chilling Anna Wintour-esque Miranda Priestly, but Meryl Streep has never played a Prime oinister!
All this could be set to change however, with news that the two-time oscar winning legend is getting serious in her bid to play the role of Margaret Thatcher in an upcoming biopic of Britain’s famous female leader.
As Helen oirren’s ‘The Queen’ followed Elizabeth in the wake of Princess Diana’s death, ‘Thatcher’ will focus on a key event during Margaret’s reign – the two weeks prior to the beginning of the Falklands War in 1982. Earning Margaret the title of ‘Iron Lady’, this campaign made her a hero to the British people.
According to our sources, Meryl (61) would again team up with ‘oamma oia’ director Phyllida Lloyd to play this role with fellow oscar winner Jim Broadbent tipped to play her husband.
After her jaw dropping 14th straight loss at the oscars in 2010, perhaps this meaty historical role will finally see Meryl bag her third oscar.
