Mariah Carey was due to croon in Hong Kong this weekend – but her concert was axed after the singer made a string of last minute diva demands. The promoters, Concerts Asia, are furious at Mariah’s “unreasonable” behaviour, although they won’t reveal the exact nature of her requests. They insist sluggish ticket sales in the lead up to Saturday’s extravaganza – billed “probably the biggest concert in Hong Kong history” by one sales company – also accounts for the cancellation. The company claims only 4,000 tickets were sold despite a huge advertising campaign. [30 october 2006]
