We forgave British singer Katie Melua for getting her facts wrong in her 2005 hit Nine Million Bicycles, and although she only wrote three of the 11 tracks on her fifth album Secret Symphony, we can forgive her again. In a time where many singers try to emulate the soulful style of Amy Winehouse, Katie’s happy melodic vocals are deliciously innocent.

Katie puts her own mark on covers of Françoise Hardy’s All Over the World and Ron Sexsmith’s Gold in Them Hills, as well as lesser known songs by manager-producer Mike Batt of Bright Eyes fame. The album is a simple pleasure, but you can’t help but wish Katie would shake things up a little.
