BOOK REVIEW: Starlight Peninsula

A kiwi political satire by talented Charlotte Grimshaw.
Starlight Peninsula by Charlotte Grimshaw.

Author Charlotte Grimshaw’s mind is a delightful thing. Her ability to seamlessly develop minor characters from prior novels and re-imagine real-life events is brilliantly evident in this companion novel to Soon.

In Starlight Peninsula we meet TV producer Eloise Hay, ex-girlfriend of Arthur, a young journalist who met a gruesome end. Eloise had buried her grief by throwing herself into a new marriage; however her husband has recently left, and Eloise has hit crisis point. She is berating herself for not investigating Arthur’s death further and so has embarked on the search for answers.

Once again, Grimshaw has skilfully tackled this difficult genre to produce a well crafted, intriguing story with expertly developed characters, beautifully described landmarks and cultural references Kiwi readers will easily recognise.
