Rugby star Julian Savea and his wife Fatima have taken to social media to announce the exciting news that they are expecting their first child together.
The couple shared the same photo to Instagram earlier this week, showing the pair standing in front of a group of silver balloons spelling out the word ‘baby’.
“We are so happy and blessed to announce that our little family is going to grow in December,” Julian wrote, while Fatima added: “We are beyond blessed and excited to announce that we are expecting a wee bundle of joy soon! Words can not describe our excitement and joy.”
Fatima also shared a video of the heartwarming moment she told her father about the couple’s baby news, describing it as the “best reaction ever”.
The star couple first met in 2013 and tied the knot in a fairytale ceremony at Wellington’s Pencarrow Lodge in December 2015, following a Muslim ceremony in August.
Speaking to the Herald last year, Fatima opened up about the duo’s desire to have children and the difficulties they faced in that journey.
“Julian is a father already and he would absolutely love a whole rugby team of children, but to some it comes easily and to others it’s very difficult and unfortunately we are on the difficult side of things,” she said at the time.
Fatima, who moved to Auckland from Iraq when she was 7, also opened up about the couple’s struggle to gain the approval of her family.
“It definitely hasn’t been an easy three years for us. I come from a Muslim family and they were not very accepting of the relationship at first, which was very difficult for us both, but we fought hard for what we wanted and now my family wouldn’t have it any other way,” she told the Herald.
Congratulations to the couple on their impending arrival!
