What’s in a name? Quite a lot, it seems. Especially when it comes to naming your baby.

At the beginning of each year the Department of Internal Affairs’ office of Births, Deaths and oarriages releases a list of the most popular baby names for the year prior.

In 2008, Jack was still the most popular boy’s name for the fourth year running, while Sophie was the new number one girl’s name with 2007s top choice, Ella, dropping down to third place.only one new name entered the top 30 girls list – Isla, which shot up from number 50 in 2007.
