A quick pick-me-up

Dear Wendyl,I went away for a weekend and I was sitting outside a café reading when a group of men began talking about their best pick-up lines. At first I thought, “They can’t be talking about me!” but I looked around and I was the only one there. I couldn’t think of anything to say and I haven’t dated in ages, so I quickly packed up and left. I’ve regretted it ever since. What would you have done?Jo, Dunedin

Dear Jo, I would have hung around long enough to hear what their pick-up lines were. You can tell a lot about a man that way. What I think you are saying is that you are ready to start dating, would love to meet a man and are having some nervous jitters. That’s okay, it’s normal when you’ve been off the scene for a while. I want you to work on putting yourself in a social situation again – maybe start with drinks and this time you’re going to be prepared. You don’t need witty comebacks.

All you need is to walk into the room with a big smile and a genuine interest in other people. Plus it probably wouldn’t hurt to show off your assets. of course, I’m joking about the assets – it would be sexist of me to imply that men are only interested in one thing! Good luck – let me know how you get on.Wendyl
