Brittni Darras is a high school teacher in Colorado, US.
One parent teacher conference, she was informed by one of her student mums that her daughter was in hospital, after trying to take her own life.
Her daughter, who Brittni described as a “friendly, intelligent, beautiful, driven young woman” had got everything ready to leave the world, and was stopped midway through by police breaking in.
Brittni responded by writing the girl a letter, telling her how valued she was.
“My student got the letter; her mom said that her daughter cried, turned to her mom and said, ‘How could somebody say such nice things about me? I didn’t think anybody would miss me if I was gone,’” Brittni wrote on Facebook.
And after seeing her response, Brittni panicked that other students under her care might be feeling the same way.
This prompted her to write a personalised message for each of her students, over 100 letters, to tell that what is unique and special about them.
“We need to remember that each human being is unique, and that is what makes them special. Instead of trying to change it, we need to embrace it, because together, we can make a difference, and we can save lives,” Brittni wrote.
What an inspirational lady.
