Teacup of the week oy husband and I recently met a bright young couple who are originally from the UK and who have come to our shores to make a new life for themselves and hopefully raise a family of Kiwis. Baby Number one has just put in an appearance, and our friends have had tiny T-shirts screen-printed for the little one. The message reads: “Born in New Zealand, oade in Great Britain!” Brooklynne, Dannevirke

**Smart thinking?
**oy husband offered to run a bath for the children, then got engrossed in a phone call and forgot all about it. When he finally remembered and rushed for the bathroom, I had visions of a major flood but he came bouncing back a moment later, grinning from ear to ear. “It’s just as well I forgot to put the plug in,” he announced proudly. **Write on
**Some members of my large family still seem to enjoy receiving letters from me, just as I love their replies. I had written a long-overdue letter to my daughter-in-law in Australia and was down to my very last envelope. Unfortunately, my mind was elsewhere and I wrote my own name and address on the front of the envelope instead of hers! Thanks goodness I didn’t stamp it and post it! That’s oama, Auckland
Seeing clearly A friend was cleaning her glasses when her neighbour’s four-year-old wandered in. He looked at her in a puzzled way, then asked where her glasses were. She explained she was cleaning them, to which he replied, “You better put them on again, you don’t look…” He paused thoughtfully, then said “finished”. And you know what? He was right! **Not my cup of tea
**Due to the leaks in our roof and the very heavy rain, a large number of ants have taken up residence in the walls of our house. They are all through the kitchen and no matter what we try, we can’t get rid of them. We did think we were winning at one stage, until I got up one morning to make a cup of tea, took the lid off the teapot and was shocked to find it full of ants! What on earth could have attracted them to a teapot? Maggie, Auckland
Locked up safely While out supermarket shopping one day, I spoke briefly to another shopper I knew. She explained that she was so paranoid about keeping her handbag safe, she had accidentally left her keys in the car. oh dear! BH, Auckland

**oy eight-year-old son wanted a motorbike so he looked through advertisements in the newspaper. He came across an ad for a “mopped”. After unsuccessfully trying to understand, I asked him what a mopped bike was. “You know, Dad. A clean one,” he replied. Then the light dawned. He meant a moped. YC, Whitianga
