Kevin Milne: Unwanted photos

What are your options when you are gifted an unwanted photo?

My darling husband had an old, rather sexy photo of me blown up and framed for my birthday.

Let’s just say I’m not wearing much!

The photographers have done a good job, they even photoshopped me to look “hotter”.

It all cost quite a lot, but the fact is I hate it.

I know we’re stuck with the picture, but the photographers won’t take back the frame and glass. Surely they should? They could easily use it again.

I don’t think I can comment on this without seeing the photo. No, just joking.

Are you sure you don’t like it? Not just being bashful? I’m sorry to have to tell you that the Consumer Guarantees Act is on the side of the photographers.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the frame, it does the job as required. They are under no obligation to refund any of your money.

Some retailers might oblige, purely for goodwill purposes, but they don’t have to. And I can’t imagine any other customers wanting exactly the same frame.

This leaves you with at least two options.

Find a photo that you do like and have it blown up to fit the frame.

Or, if your photographers are adept at photoshopping, ask them if they can alter the existing photo in a way that you would feel relaxed about.

Maybe they could dress you. Or keep the photo as it is and present it back to him on his birthday – with instructions it’s to go up in the garage.
