Marie Buchan, 37, has told national media in the UK that she’s unable to pursue her dream job as a mechanic, because men keep trying it on with her.

The mum-of-eight, who lives in Birmingham, told the Daily Star that many of the men working in car garages are “dirty big perverts,” who see something other than just her professional skills when she approaches them for work.

“They’re not really after me working there, they’re looking for something more. I think they’re just dirty big perverts. You’ve got women in the police force, in the Army, we have the skills, it’s just that men see us as sex symbols.”

Marie is keen to start work as a mechanic once she finishes her diploma in March, but told the tabloid that men are too interested in trying to date her.

The 37-year-old receives the equivalent of $50,000 NZ a year in benefits to help with the housing and care of her eight children, and has previously defended the fact that she doesn’t work – stating she was actually worse off when in employment.

Often in the media, Marie previously caused outrage for saying she planned to spend her wages on a boob job because tax cuts and benefits pay for her children’s care.
