Everything you need to know about Donald Trump’s inauguration

Your guide to when, where and how Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States.

The day that former reality television star and property mogul Donald Trump will become President, is here.

After beating Hilary Clinton to win the Presidential election in November 2016, Trump will be sworn in as the 45th President of the United States of America on January 20 (January 21 NZT).

Here is what you need to know about the presidential inauguration ceremony:

How can I watch the inauguration?

Twitter: PBS Newshour has teamed up with the social media site to live stream the ceremony. You can watch it here

YouTube: Various US news outlets will live stream the action on YouTube. Options include C-Span, Bloomberg Politics and USA Today.

Online: The White House will also stream it from their website.

Who is performing?

Much has been made of Trump’s struggles to secure star performers for the ceremony. Toby Keith, 3 Doors Down, The Piano Guys are among those who have agreed to play for the crowds. Trump’s wife Melania will also join him on stage.

What time is the inauguration happening?

Saturday, 3am NZT: Donald Trump attends a morning church service

Saturday, 3.30am NZT: The Inaugural Swearing-in Ceremony starts. Performers entertain crowds until the President-Elect arrives.

Saturday, 4.30am NZT: Trump arrives at the White House to meet with President Obama. They travel to the swearing-in ceremony together.

Saturday, 5.45am NZT: Vice President Mike Pence takes his oath of office.

Saturday, 6am NZT: Trump takes his oath of office, administered by Chief Justice of the United States, John Roberts.

Saturday, 6.10am NZT: President Trump delivers his inaugural address.

Saturday, 7am NZT: Former President Obama and Former Vice President Joe Biden and their families are escorted out by the new administration. They are expected to leave by helicopter, following 40 years of tradition.

Saturday, 8.30am, NZT: President Trump and Vice President Pence lead the Inaugural Parade along Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House.

Sunday, 1am, NZT: The Inaugural Balls are held in Washington.

What will President Trump say?

The presidential oath of office reads: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States”.

What else is happening in Washington?

The day after the inauguration, hundreds of thousands of people are expected to rally for the Women’s March on Washington. Speakers and performers include Gloria Steinman, Scarlett Johansson, America Ferrera, Ashley Judd and Janelle Monae.
