Auckland traffic was reduced to a crawl this morning as a baby was born on the side of the Southern Motorway.
The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) tweeted the announcement, saying: “It’s a boy!”
All three lanes of the Southern Motorway city bound at Market Rd have now been reopened.
A police spokesman told the New Zealand Herald they were alerted about 9.20am.
NZTA later tweeted the mother and baby are now on route to hospital and are doing well.

NZTA said the boy was born about 9.45am.
“Please let us know if you have any suggestions for the baby’s name. Our team like ‘Mark’ (short for Market Rd) but others may do better,” it wrote on its Facebook page.
