With a wedding date planned for later this year, it means 2017 will be a particularly busy one for Maggie Barry – with both the election and her nuptials rounding out the year.
Revealing her happy news in an exclusive interview with New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, Maggie (57) says she’d never been tempted to walk down the aisle before.
“I didn’t really see the point until now,” she admits. “It didn’t seem important”
Her change of heart came after the couple were rocked by a health scare. Grant, whom has two adult children, contracted a life-threatening disease – and ironically enough for Maggie, former host of Maggie’s Gardening Show, the illness was a direct result of Grant spending an afternoon in the couple’s garden.
“It did make me think life is precious, your health is everything and it’s important to spend time together – all those clichés your mother tells you,” tells Maggie.
“And I love Grant. We enrich each other’s lives and make each other happy.”
In this week’s issue of New Zealand Woman’s Weekly, Maggie explains the details of the proposal, the frightening illness that landed Grant in hospital, as well as the game-changing text messages she received from former Prime Minister John Key.
