How to make your own hand-knitted garment

Make your own chic and versatile knitwear to see you through the changing seasons in style.

**Measurements:

S-M: **To fit bust 75-90 cm

            Length 75 cm 

L-XL: To fit bust 95-110cm

              Length: 78 cm

**Materials:

**Cleckheaton bamboo 50g balls

Quantity: S-M: 15 or L-XL: 17

You will need: One each 4.00mm and 4.50mm circular knitting needles (80cm long) and a set of 3.25mm double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to give correct tension; wool needle for sewing in ends.

Tension: 26.5 sts and 35 rows to 10cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm needles.

**Abbreviations:

beg** = begin/ning;

cm = centimetres; cont = continue;

dec = decrease, decreasing;

foll = follows, following;

inc = increase, increasing;

K = knit;

P = purl;

patt = pattern;

rem = remain/ing;

rep = repeat;

sl = slip;

st/s = stitch/es;

tbl = through back of loop;

tog = together;

ybk = yarn back – take yarn under needle from purling position into knitting position without making a stitch;

yft = yarn front – take yarn under needle from knitting position into purling position, without making a stitch.

Wrap  **(knitted sideways):

Using 4.50mm circular needle, cast on 198** (206) sts.

Note* – A circular needle has been used to accommodate the large number of sts. Do not join to work in rounds but work backwards and forwards in rows.

**Beg Band Patt –

1st row** – K2 tbl, P2, K2, P2, rep from to last 2 sts, K2 tbl.

2nd row – Sl 2 purlways, ybk, K2, P2, K2, rep from to last 2 sts, yft, sl 2 purlways. Last 2 rows form band patt. Cont in band patt until band measures 8cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row. Change to 4.00mm circular needle.

Beg Patt – 1st row – K2 tbl, knit to last 2 sts, K2 tbl.

2nd row – Sl 2 purlways, purl to last 2 sts, sl 2 purlways. Last 2 rows form patt. Cont in patt until work measures 64 (65) cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.

Shape First Armhole** –

** 1st Row – Patt 94 (96), cast off next 50 (56) sts, patt to end. Cont on last 54 sts for upper armhole shaping.

**

2nd Row** – Patt to last 2 sts, P2tog.

**

3rd Row **– K2tog, patt to end. Rep last 2 rows once… 50 sts.

**

6th Row** – Patt to end.

7th Row – Inc in first st, patt to end.

**

8th Row – Patt to last st, inc in last st. Rep last 2 rows once… 54 sts. Break off yarn and leave sts on needle. With wrong side facing, join yarn to rem 94** (96) sts for lower armhole shaping.

**

1st Row** – P2tog, patt to end.

**

2nd Row – Patt to last 2 sts, K2tog. Rep last 2 rows once… 90** (92) sts.

**

5th Row** – Patt to end. Tie a coloured thread at beg of last row.

**

6th Row **– Patt to last st, inc in last st.

**

7th Row – Inc in fi rst st, patt to end. Rep last 2 rows once… 94** (96) sts.

**

Next Row – Patt 94 (96), turn, cast on 50 (56) sts, turn, patt across rem 54 sts… 198 (206) sts.

Cont in patt until work measures 36 (39) cm from coloured thread, ending with a 2nd row.

**

Shape Second Armhole – Rep from to . Cont in patt until work measures 56** (57) cm from end of second armhole, ending with a 2nd row.

Change to 4.50mm circular needle. Work in band patt (as before) until band measures 8cm from beg, ending with a 2nd row.Cast off loosely in rib.

**Armhole edgings:

With right side facing, using set of 3.25mm double-pointed** needles and beg at coloured thread at lower edge of armhole opening, knit up 122 sts evenly around armhole edge. Purl 1 round. Cast off loosely purlways.

To make up:

Do not press. Sew in ends.
