Black Ferns captain Sarah Hirini reveals her surprising hidden talent

A day in the life of this sportswoman sounds very active!

We sat down with Black Ferns captain Sarah Hirini and asked her to spill some of her secrets.

My hidden talent is…

Knowing how to shear a sheep.

Top of my bucket list is…

Travelling to Machu Picchu.

My favourite quote is…

“Do it now!”

The book that changed my life was…

Jessica by Bryce Courtenay. Reading it showed me a totally different perspective on life and made me really appreciate the life I have.

My typical working week…

Consists of long training days, Monday through to Saturday. Usually I wake up to a green tea waiting on the bench and enjoy snuggles with my dog Booker before I head to training for 8am.

I get home after 4.30pm, then it’s on to life admin before enjoying some downtime at night, whether that’s at home with my husband Conor, going out with friends or across the road at the beach.

I stretch most nights and say the things I’m grateful for. I try to say them out loud when I’m on the beach with Booker. Hearing them out loud makes me appreciate them more.

Once a week I’ll do yoga and a float session – that’s more for ‘me-time’.

If I could live off one food, it would be…

Japanese food, for the flavour and variety. I like that you can have so many different options in one meal.

The best birthday I ever had was…

The year whole family surprised me for breakfast. It was over 20 people! I don’t get the opportunity to see them all together, all the time, so it was such a great surprise.

Most of my time is taken up by…

Rugby, rugby, gym and more rugby.

The person I’d most love to meet is…

That’s a hard one. I’d love to meet the Queen, Beyoncé or Pink, each for different reasons.
