How to make a natural earache cure

Green goddess Wendyl Nissen shares an easy, natural way to treat minor earaches.

*Dear Wendyl,

I get regular earaches but they’re never too bad, so I don’t really want to use heavy medication each time. Aside from just waiting it out, do you know of any natural remedies that could give me a little relief?

John*

Hi John,

You’re in luck! If you can get your hands on some mullein flowers, you can make an oil, which is fantastic for earaches.

Once you have your flowers, dry them for a few weeks in your hot-water cupboard between sheets of paper towels. If you don’t have a hot-water cupboard, somewhere warm and dry – such as the top of your fridge – will do.

In a jar, combine a handful of dried mullein flowers and a clove of sliced garlic. Cover the herbs with olive oil, put the lid on the jar and let it sit on a sunny windowsill for a few days.

Strain and transfer the oil to a dropper bottle. Use 2-3 drops in your ear once or twice a day. You can warm it first by sitting the dropper bottle in a cup of hot water if you like.

If you are concerned about a medical problem, always consult your GP.
