Whether it’s quinoa or kale, there’s no denying that superfoods are all the rage – and summer is a great time to switch up your habits and try a few new ones.
By definition, a superfood is meant to be low in calories and packed full of nutrients that are going to benefit your body, so there are plenty of reasons to consider giving them a try!
Here are three superfoods to try this summer:
1. Acai Berry
These dark purple berries are full of antioxidants, which help to fight the effects of free radical damage to the body. They’re also a source of omega-3 fatty acids – the good kind.
2. Kimchi
Kimchi is a staple of Korean cuisine. Similar to the German delicacy sauerkraut, it is a fermented dish made using different types of vegetables, seasonings and spices. The fermentation process means it’s full of ‘friendly’ bacteria that may be able to help with digestion.
3. Flaxseed
Flaxseeds are a source of healthy omega-3 fats, copper, vitamin B1 and fibre and can be easily added to baking recipes by adding some ground flaxseeds to the mix.
