Colin Mathura-Jeffree reveals his top style tips for Auckland Cup Week
How to ace your race day fashion

There’s plenty to love about racing fashion, from the outrageous hats to the gorgeous dresses!

If you are going to the races this year, look out for the Lindauer Style Stable at the Ellerslie Racecourse.

Lindauer Raceday Ambassador Colin Mathura-Jeffree will be there on Derby Day and Diamond Day – and with Auckland Cup Week kicking off soon, he shared his expert style tips for racing fashion.

Q. What are your race day style tips?

Colin: This is a day to really celebrate fashion. Go for a complete look. I love the way women look at the races… the dresses that flow over the form of the person and the style that turns them into a thing of great beauty. Remember to keep it classy whatever look you go for.

Be brave when it comes to embracing colour, and remember you want to look top to toe gorgeous! Black and white may well be the colour combo of the season (and for Derby Day) but for Auckland Cup Day, think COLOUR!

Men too need a refined, gentlemanly look. Things like colourful socks and pocket squares, lapel flowers or brooches not only give you more, it actually gives you an edge. It’s often how you will be identified in the busy crowds.

Check the dress code. There are rules for different ticket types so if you’ve bagged yourself a place in a ticketed area or marquee, keep the hemline modest and don’t forget the headwear!

Q. What do you consider fashion no-nos at the track?

Colin: I think you either go all out or not at all. Embracing part of a ‘look’ because you’re not sure doesn’t work. Fashion is to be celebrated and not feared. Also, not taking pride in your appearance.
