Recipes for beautiful skin

Good enough to eat, inexpensive to make and a little bit of fun along the way – here are a few gorgeous face-treatment masks that will leave you feeling like a natural beauty. You can use these masks on almost any part of your body too. They are particularly great for the backs of your hands. Don’t forget to use organic ingredients if you can get them so you know you’re using what’s best for your body.

Aloe, rose and clay mask

This mask is good for all skin types, especially sensitive skin. You can get the ingredients from health food shops.

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons French green clay

  • 1/2 teaspoon Kaolin white clay

  • 4 teaspoons aloe vera gel

  • 2 teaspoons pure distilled rosewater

  • 2 drops essential rose oil

Mix the French green clay and Kaolin white clay together. In a seperate bowl mix the aloe and rosewater together. Add the aloe/rosewater mixture slowly to the clay mixture stirring until all the lumps are gone. Then add the rose essential oil and blend together.

Apply the mask to your face and neck (avoiding the eye area) and leave on for 15 minutes before rinsing clean. This recipe makes 2-3 facial treatments and it will keep in the fridge for up to one month.

The “Raid the Fridge” mask

This is a simple, easy to make treat for your face.

  • 1 tablespoon live natural yoghurt

  • 1 teaspoon runny honey (manuka is great)

Mix the yoghurt with the honey then apply to your face and neck and leave on for 20 minutes. Remove with a facecloth wrung out in hot water, repaeating until all of the mask is removed. For dry skin use 2 teaspoonfuls of honey. For oily skin add a few drops of fresh lime juice.

Almond, honey, milk and aloe mask

This mask is very hydrating for dry skin.

  • 1 teaspoon milk powder

  • 1 tablespoon ground almonds

  • 1 tablespoon honey (again, manuka is great)

  • 1 teaspoon aloe vera gel

  • 2 drops neroli essential oil

Mix the milk with the almonds, then add the honey and aloe and mix well. Finally, add the neroli oil. Smooth over your face amd leave on for 10-15 minutes before rinsing clean. This recipe will make 2-3 facial treatments and will keep in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
