Homemade lip balm

With the addition of vitamin E oil (which also acts as a preservative), this balm is especially good for lips. My daughter and her two friends loved the balm containing sweet orange essential oil. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that adding vanilla essence will work; it doesn’t. Use essential oils.

  • 20ml sweet almond oil

  • ½ tsp cosmetics-gradebeeswax, grated, or beeswax pellets

  • ½ tsp cocoa butter

  • 1 tsp icing sugar

  • 1 capsule vitamin E

  • 5 drops essential oil (such as sweet orange, rose or peppermint)

1 Melt oil, beeswax and cocoa butter in a double boiler (or place a bowl over a saucepan of gently boiling water, making sure its base doesn’t touch the water).

2 Add icing sugar and stir to dissolve. Remove from heat and add vitamin E by piercing the capsule. Add essential oils. Stir and pour into a lip balm jar.
