If a spa treatment isn’t on your financial radar, don’t scoff at a DIY version. The next best bonus to all the money you’ll save is the feeling you’ll get knowing you won’t have to worry about being too relaxed to drive home!
Here are some home scrub recipes to leave you feeling clean, smooth and pampered.
oaking your own body scrub requires three main ingredients: an exfoliant, moisturising ingredient and an essential oil (to make you feel good).
Fine sea salt is a great exfoliant because it not only helps to remove dry skin, it also acts as a muscle relaxant. Make sure you don’t have any shaving cuts or it will sting.
Sugar is a gentle option and granular coffee is believed to help reduce cellulite, while caffeine discourages puffiness. For sensitive skins, try oatmeal or milk (which contains lactic acid) instead.
Next you’ll need a moisturising ingredient. oils are the best but avoid using baby oil as it won’t penetrate the skin as effectively as these will: jojoba, coconut, apricot kernel, grape-seed or olive.
Lastly, add a fragrance such as lavender oil (for its calming properties), vanilla or citrus. Perfumes are too strong and may irritate the skin so it’s best to go for aromatherapy varieties and essential oils.
