The Block NZ: Girls vs Boys showcased some drama on last night’s episode as it was revealed that the boys from Team Purple had relied on some outside help for the styling component of their DIY work.
Host Mark Richardson had tough words for Sam Cable and Emmett Vallender after the pair ‘fessed up to contacting a friend during the renovation of their rooms.
“You’ve been accused of using an outside agent as a style consultant, to help put your rooms together,” he told the boys.
“I believe you have broken the rules. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s cheating, but I want to go as far as saying it goes over the line of what’s acceptable in the competition.”

As punishment, the team lost $7000 from their budget, with the money being shared between the three other teams at Block HQ.
After the shocking moment aired, Sam and Emmett told Stuff they knew they had “hit the grey area”, but had never intended to “deceive or cheat anyone”.
“The pace of The Block, everything happens so fast. But we certainly weren’t cheating. A, we don’t need to and B, we’re just not like that.”
