The Block Australia: Meet the 2023 contestants!

Strap on your toolbelts and meet this year’s Blockheads, who will be renovating five ’50s-style Melbourne homes

Get to know the five teams going head-to-head in this year’s season of The Block Australia.

Steph & Gian, Sydney

The married blue team has a head start when it comes to designing – Steph Ottavio is an architect! On her website, the 27-year-old says she “seeks to create a deeper emotional connection with everyone she meets to help them understand that architecture is in fact a way of life”. Her husband Gian, 27, works in finance. The pair met on a school bus when they were 13 or 14. Cute!

Leah & Ash, Brisbane

First-aid officer Leah Milton, 32, and her builder husband Ash, 38, have three kids, but when they’re not busy parenting, they describe themselves as “the life of the party”. The yellow team run a family building company and also have experience refurbishing their own home. As a qualified carpenter, Ash has the upper hand with technical things on The Block!

Kristy & Brett, Adelaide

Together for 10 years, the red team are busy parents and describe themselves as “down-to-earth”. Kristy Beams, 34, is a project manager, while husband Brett, 34, is a safety officer. Word is their old-school techniques and opinions will divide fans and the judges. While they’ve only renovated a bathroom before, their competitive streak should be a plus.

Eliza & Liberty, Melbourne

Purple team’s lively sisters Eliza (right) and Liberty Paschke have zero renovation experience – and both are looking for love! “We’re hoping there are some single tradies,” says Liberty. Having worked for years in radio, Eliza, 37, has shared her dating journey in a podcast called Finding A Unicorn, while Liberty, 34, works in advertising.

Kyle & Leslie, Perth

Firefighter Kyle Cottone, 36, and his wife, teaching aide Leslie, 34, are parents of two from Western Australia. The green team will think outside the box with their renovation ideas and certainly won’t be playing it safe. However, they say they’ll be neutral “Switzerland” if any drama breaks out – they’re here to build friendships as well as the winning home.

The Block Australia premieres Sunday 19 November on Three.
