MasterChef Australia judge Andy Allen is carefully navigating his blossoming friendship with one of his new co-hosts, food writer Sofia Levin – and it’s for good reason!
According to one participant on the show, Andy was worried about what his wife of almost two years, Alex Davey, might think of their burgeoning bond.
“By nature, Andy is quite flirty and so is Sofia,” the series insider tells Woman’s Day. “It’s part of her girl-next-door charm and how she interacts with lots of the contestants on the show.
“You can see they have real chemistry. Casting has a lot to do with making these judges pop on camera. They needed no added MasterChef magic to make these two enjoy each other’s company.”
In fact, former MasterChef winner Andy, 36, is said to have been so concerned that the friendly banter and jokey flirting with travel blogger Sofia, 34, might be taken the wrong way that he expressed his concerns to producers ahead of the show going to air, according to our source.
Now rumours are swirling that the episodes have been edited down. The cuts have been made so that we see as little of the pair together as possible on our screens.
“It’s a shame you won’t see more of their playful antics,” says our source. “Andy doesn’t want anyone to think there is anything going on. He’s conscious of upsetting his wife which has also meant Sofia has been getting less screen time.
“It’s a real shame as all the contestants have been reporting that she was a standout through filming. The long days were hard, but Sofia made everything fun for cast and crew.”
