TVNZ have finally confirmed the new Seven Sharp lineup, with broadcaster and funnyman Jeremy Wells announced as Mike Hosking’s replacement.

Former Breakfast host Hilary Barry was confirmed as Toni Street’s replacement two weeks ago.

The state broadcaster had to scramble to find a new presenting duo after Street and Hosking dramatically quit the show at the end of last year.

Wells came to prominence in 1997 as Mikey Havoc’s sidekick Newsboy on the Havoc show. He went on to host Eating Media Lunch and The Unauthorised History of New Zealand before joining Radio Hauraki in 2014.

He has won a new legion of fans thanks to his spot-on impersonation of Mike Hosking, a segment that has become a regular feature on his Hauraki Breakfast radio show.

Wells employed his typical deadpan style when commenting on his new role. “It’s nice to be a part of a grown up, credible, ratings juggernaut rather than the low rating, late night schedule fillers I’m usually involved in. I’ll be leaning heavily on Hilary’s intelligence, professionalism and pronunciation to get me through.”

Barry was equally as complimentary of Wells. “The Seven Sharp team is one of the best in the business and I can’t wait to be part of the family and who better to share the desk with than someone as hilarious and talented as Jeremy Wells. I think we’re going to have a lot of fun.”

Seven Sharp will return to screens at 7pm on the 5th February.
