The footage was taken in their home in 1949 when the Prince was just one year old and beginning to toddle on wobbly, chubby legs.

The clip shows Princess Elizabeth, aged 23, delighting in her young son as she encouraged him to walk to her by shaking a tray of blocks to entice him.

Later the pair played together, giggling and tickling on the royal couch.

Clarence House tweeted the touching 50 second film which was made by the Monarch herself and entitled Prince Charles at Home. It was shown before in part as part of the Christmas Day broadcast in 2008, but it is understood to be part of the Royal family’s personal archive.
