Most of us go by the name we were given but some prefer to be called by a nickname or their middle name – and in the case of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle they are both part of this name-changer club.
Prince Harry’s real name isn’t Harry – it’s Henry Charles Albert David. And his full royal title is His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales.
The popular royal has been known as Harry since he was a child because apparently Harry is a common nickname for Henry in the royal family.
(His late mother, Princess Diana, also called her boy “My Little Spencer” to show that his red hair came from her side of the family.)
Harry also sometimes uses absurd nicknames so he will go unnoticed. He often goes by “Spike Wells”, and when he was in the military, he went by the title Officer Cadet Wales.
Interestingly, Harry’s love Meghan Markle was also given a different name as a baby.
Meghan Markle’s actual name is Rachel Meghan Markle and it’s said she dropped the Rachel for her acting stage name.
Aren’t they the perfect couple – if they went on to have children we wonder what they’d call them (and then what they’d really call them!)
