The Duchess of Cambridge has long been a staunch advocate for children’s mental health and yesterday, she stepped up once more to launch a new initiative aimed at empowering parents to seek the help they need for their families.
“Throughout my work with family and child support organisations, one thing that has stood out to me time and again is that getting early support for a child who is struggling to cope is the best possible thing we can do to help our children as they grow up,” Kate said in a statement.
“Knowing this, both William and I feel very strongly that we wouldn’t hesitate to get expert support for George and Charlotte if they need it.”
The Duchess was speaking in support of the new podcast series called ‘Child in Mind’, which launched yesterday and is being spearheaded by British charity the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families.
The podcast consists of 20-minute episodes designed to help parents understand and manage the mental health needs of their children, by bringing together experts in the field.
In her official statement on the series launch, Kate touched on the stigma that still surrounds issues of mental health, especially when it comes to children.

“One in three adults still say they would be embarrassed to seek help for their child’s mental health,” the mum-of-two continued.
“No parent would fail to call the doctor if their child developed a fever, yet some children are tackling tough times without the support that can help them because the adults in their life are scared to ask. It doesn’t need to be like this,” Kate added.
“With the right help, children have a good chance of overcoming their issues while they are still young, and can have the bright future they deserve.”
This isn’t the first time Kate has been vocal about this important issue.
In February last year, the royal recorded a video message to mark the launch of the UK’s first Children’s Mental Health Week.
