It’s the moment royal enthusiasts have all been waiting for: the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
Charles and Camilla were crowned in Westminster Abbey on Saturday May 6, 2023.
It’s the same place every British monarch has been crowned for over 900 years. The last coronation was held in June 1953, when Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, became the reigning monarch.
That means for many royal watchers, and Charles’ esteemed guests, seeing the coronation on television this weekend is a once in a lifetime experience.
Including a delegation from New Zealand which included Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro, Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, National Party Leader Christopher Luxon and Order of New Zealand member and former All Black captain Richie McCaw.
Of course, among the most notable guests were members of the British royal family.
Prince Harry made another highly-anticipated return to the UK to celebrate his father’s coronation. His wife, Duchess Meghan, and children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, did not attend..
Prince William and Princess Catherine have been heavily involved in pre-coronation celebrations, and arrived alongside their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Buckingham Palace announced through Instagram that William and Kate’s eldest son, George, would be one of the King’s Pages of Honour that will form part of the official procession through Westminster Abbey.
Queen Camilla’s grandsons and great-nephew also took part in the official procession as the Queen’s Pages of Honour.
Charles’ siblings Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward all attended, alongside Zara and Mike Tindall, Peter and Autumn Phillips, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.
While the British Royal Family took pride of place, there were also a number of other royal dynasties represented at the coronation.
