Trouble is brewing behind closed doors for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, with Prince Harry reportedly making plans to leave his wife if she doesn’t dial back her ambitions.
“Harry’s done with California, and he’s made it clear to Meghan he’s had enough and wants out,” says a well-placed source.
“He’s miserable. His career hasn’t taken off, he hasn’t got any good friends and he can’t stand the fact they’re being shunned by Hollywood.”
While Meghan, 44, is reportedly less than thrilled about returning to the UK for the first time in four years, Harry, 41, is already on the countdown to their May trip. And now he’s finally convinced the British government to consider giving the family taxpayer-funded security, he wants them to spend even more time there.
“Meghan kept telling him to let it be, but she knows deep down that he’s done it in part to try to escape,” continues our insider.
Meanwhile, with the couple still burning through their own cash, Meghan’s exploring new ways to top up their accounts, such as writing her own memoir – something Harry suspects could derail their return to the royal family.
Meghan may harm their kids’ future

“Meghan has been doing her best to find ways to make money, but nothing is really offering as big a payday as she’d like, except publishers, who are lining up with blank cheques for a tell-all book,” another Montecito source spills.
“The problem is they’re only willing to part with the big bucks if she dishes the dirt on her in-laws.”
Not only is Harry understandably “completely against” the idea, but his concerns are mounting that taking this type of drastic action just to secure money could harm the future prospects of their kids, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.
“As much as they’re trying to put a happy face on things, it’s an open secret that Harry and Meghan are dealing with some very serious issues,” continues the insider.
Having recently spent time in London by himself in order to give evidence in his court battle with the Daily Mail, Harry is now said to be worried that word has already got back to the King about Meghan’s memoir.
Holiday home in Portugal

While in the UK last September, he was able to secure an uninterrupted hour with his father, 77, but this time, His Majesty gave him the cold shoulder, instead joining the Queen, 78, for
a photo op with their new $367,000 electric sports car.
Despite the snub, a palace spy insists, “Harry is begging to come home. He talks about the UK constantly. He knows his father is ill and he feels time slipping away. For him, 2026 feels urgent.”
As we recently reported, however, Meghan is doing everything in her power to derail the homecoming, making outrageous diva demands, including an insistence that the King, Queen and Princess of Wales publicly and privately apologise for how they’ve treated her.
King had other plans

After years of rumours that all is not well with their eight-year marriage, this could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for Harry, who is reportedly getting ready to walk away. His escape plan includes making the family’s $8 million Portuguese bolthole his new base, from which he can easily visit family in the UK, and develop business relationships in Europe and the Middle East. As a bonus, his favourite cousin Princess Eugenie lives just an hour away.
“Harry could end up giving Meghan an ultimatum to come with him or they’ll do long distance, so he can explore opportunities being offered to him elsewhere,” reports our source.
“He fears if they don’t move, they’ll be stripped of their royal titles and left with zero currency.”
Making moves is important for Harry’s self-esteem, which we’re told is flagging as a result of the Sussexes’ failure to capture hearts and minds in California.
“Harry spends most days emailing back and forth about business opportunities, taking the dogs for a walk and being with the children,” our insider adds.
“He’s lost the spark he once had.”
