All the glitz and glamour from the 2018 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards

And there was even a surprise proposal!

The stars were out in force last night for New Zealand music’s night of nights – the Vodafone New Zealand music awards.

Held at Auckland’s Spark Arena, the red carpet was jam-packed with famous faces. Jack Tame and Hayley Holt were on a rare night out before their 3am Breakfast wake-up call. Hayley was excited to see Che-Fu, saying, “I love him, but I love all Kiwi music and it’s cool to catch up with so many friends on a night like this.”

Newsreader Sam Hayes and fellow Dancing With The Stars contestant Suzy Cato rocked very different but equally glam looks, and Suzy even led the crowd in an impromptu performance of It’s Our Time, the song she made famous on her popular children’s show You and Me.

The stars of The Block NZ teamed up with Married at First Sight NZ contestants on the red carpet. Everyone’s favourite single man-about-town Ben Speedy confirmed he was, in fact, still looking for love. He’s been giving Tinder a go but sighs, “It’s a lot of admin. It’s hard work!”

Marlon Williams was the big winner on the night, taking out the top prize, Album of the Year for the masterful Make Way For Love.

But it was a night she’ll never forget for one lucky woman, whose boyfriend dropped to one knee and proposed to her on the red carpet. For a wrap up of the best red carpet moments, scroll below.

Jack Tame and Hayley Holt aren’t usually out this late on a school night, but made an exception. Jack was buzzing over the big reunion news – the Spice Girls, of course. “I hope the Spice Girls extend their tour all around the world,” he says. “Even without Posh, it’s going to be momentous.” Of his favourite Kiwi artists, Jack admits, “I’m fan-boying over Drax Project. I love their music. They’re going to achieve great things.”

Newly engaged Westside actors Dan Musgrove in Working Style and Antonia Prebble in Juliette Hogan.

Former Bachelor Zac Franich and his new love Erin Simpson. Erin wore Trelise Cooper and was excited to see the designer at the event. “Trelise is actually here so I went up to her and asked, ‘Do you like my dress?’ She said she loved it!”

Dancing With the Stars winner and newsreader Sam Hayes, R, with her pretty-in-pink best friend, former 3 News journalist Claire Robbie. “I wore my hair in rollers to meditation class, which got a few laughs,” Claire confesses. “I haven’t done a red carpet in a long while,” and says she was just there to support her boyfriend Richie Hardcore. Sam, in Sass & Bide, was just pleased she could actually make it this year. “The Music Awards are such an important date on my calendar. I actually missed it last year as I was trapped in Antarctica,” she says. “My flight was delayed by eight days – so I’m extra excited this year.”

Stan Walker Kanoa Lloyd

Stan Walker rocked a Korowai cloak – made even better with Kanoa Lloyd on his arm. Kanoa was stunning in Tanya Carlson. The NZ Music Awards host confesses to being starstruck by Che-Fu. “I saw him in the hallway and I looked but then looked away before he could make eye contact,” she admits.

Dancing With The Stars favourite Suzy Cato looked absolutely stunning in “something from Suzy Cato’s wardrobe.”

Sharyn Casey and Ben Boyce made sure their outfits popped. It’s not every man who can pull off a blush linen suit but Ben wears his Hallensteins ensemble well. Sharyn wore “a vintage hire dress – they had to put a new zip in because I couldn’t sit!”

Reality stars collided as contestants from Married at First Sight and The Block joined forces.

Colin Mathura Jeffree and Melissa Davies made an unlikely pairing on the red carpet. Colin wore a bespoke suit with Nick Von K jewels. Of getting ready for the awards, he boasted, “It only takes me 15 seconds. I’m a model!”

It was one woman’s lucky day as she received an unexpected proposal. She said yes!
