Dunedin-based singer-songwriter Kylie Price is aiming for the stars, and is prepared to do everything she can to get there.
She’s a huge fan of British pop sensation Ed Sheeran, who is set to play five shows in New Zealand next year, with three of them scheduled for Dunedin.
The 23-year-old wants to open for The Shape Of You star and is rallying support from friends and fans with a social media campaign she hopes will attract Sheeran’s attention.
The campaign has only been running since Wednesday, but the #KPforED hashtag has taken off according to Price, and she couldn’t be more thrilled.
“I had NO idea #KPforED would receive the response it has and I’m bloody chuffed about it!” she wrote in a Facebook post.
The singer said the idea to create a campaign for the support came after a throwaway comment from a friend who had jokingly asked how she was going to secure the opening spot.
She told Stuff she’d gone after the much-coveted slot because she believes she is as good as anyone being considered.
“Instead of saying why I should [perform], it’s more why shouldn’t I? I’m right here, you don’t have to worry about the cost of bringing someone.”
Price admits she’s an absolute die-hard Sheeran fan, and describes her musical style as similar to the star’s with a touch of Taylor Swift, thrown in for good measure.
The singer has released one album so far, and is currently working on her second EP.
Frontier Touring is yet to comment on the campaign.
