While fans the world over were shocked and upset to hear about Angelina filing divorce from Brad Pitt, their close friends were also surprised and saddened by the news.

In a short interview at the Leaders Summit for Refugees at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, George Clooney was asked by a CNN reporter to comment on Angelina and Brad’s breakup.

“What happened?!” asked a confused George.

The actor had yet to hear about the split between his close friends, and was then informed by the reporter.

“I didn’t know that. I feel very sorry then. That’s a sad story and unfortunate for a family. It’s an unfortunate story about a family. I feel very sorry to hear that.”

He then added, “This is the first I’ve heard of it.”

George has been friends with Brad for over ten years, working together on numerous films including the Ocean’s trilogy from 2001-2007, and Burn After Reading in 2008.

Angelina filed for divorce on Monday morning, citing irreconcilable differences.

She did not request child or spousal support for the six biological and adopted children she shares with Brad, and is seeking full custody.

Her husband later released a public statement to People.

“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
