In honour of Mother’s Day, Time asked influential mothers to write an open letter to their children. For hers, Tina Knowles Lawson addressed daughters Beyonce and Solange, niece Angie and close family friend Kelly Rowland.
“Every day, I wake up thinking about how much I love, admire and cherish each of you,” she wrote.
“I gave birth to two of you, but I have four incredible daughters. Writing this brought to mind all the ways you guys have been such a blessing to me,” Tina continued.
Tina, who split with ex-husband Matthew Knowles in 2011, is very close to her family and even helped design the outfits for Destiny’s Child before Beyonce went solo. At Tina’s wedding to new beau Richard Lawson, all four women were present in this beautiful shot:
Of her eldest daughter Beyonce, Tina wrote: “Yes, you are a huge star, but you have somehow managed to stay grounded and humble in the wake of all your success.”
She also praised Solange’s toughness and bravery in “defending the underdog”, Kelly’s loyalty and ability to listen, and niece Angie’s maturity in the touching letter.
