The World Cup winning Black Ferns took out the major gongs at the New Zealand Rugby Awards last night.
They deservedly won the adidas Team of the Year award after winning the Women’s Rugby World Cup earlier this year.
All Blacks lock and Crusaders captain Sam Whitelock was named the Kelvin R Tremain Memorial Player of the Year and Investec Super Rugby Player of the Year.
There were some noticeable absences on the night. A lot of the All Blacks who went on the end of year tour didn’t show – presumably still on holiday.
Still, the night belonged to the women. Often overshadowed by the men’s team, it’s nice to see them get the recognition they deserve.
