Speaking to PrideSource, the Hollywood star revealed: “My sexual orientation is up for grabs, I guess you could say.”
However, Susan also went on to state she is a “serial monogamist”.
“I haven’t really had a large dating career. I haven’t exactly been in the midst of a lot of offers of any kind. I’m still not!” she said.
“I don’t know what’s going on! But I think back in the ‘60s it was just much more open.”
Susan, 70, was previously married to fellow actor Chris Sarandon from 1967-1979. While the actress has not tied the knot again, she did date director Franco Amurri briefly in the ‘80s, with whom she has daughter Eva Amurri.
The Thelma and Louise actress was also in a 23-year relationship with actor Tim Robbins, which ended in 2009. The couple have two sons together, 27-year-old Jack and 24-year-old Miles.
Most recently, Susan was rumoured to be dating 31-year-old Jonathan Bricklin, a co-investor with her in New York ping-pong bar SPiN. However, the two split in 2015.
In a previous interview with UK newspaper The Metro, Susan opened up about the search to find love, revealing that it didn’t matter “the age, race, gender of the person you choose to be with”.
“What’s difficult is being intimate with another human being. Once you learn to do that, the rest is just details,” she continued.
“There are so many people who found themselves in unforeseen situations. Where you come down on the sexual spectrum is very flexible but it takes courage to be vulnerable to another person – that’s the big step that has to be taken.”
