Russell Crowe: ‘I’m devastated’

The actor concentrates on his work as rumours of infidelity emerge

They have been living in separate homes for more than a year and now Russell Crowe and his wife of nine years, Danielle Spencer, have finally called it quits. Proving absence doesn’t always make the heart grow fonder, the couple – who are parents to Charles (8) and Tennyson (6) – are said to have split because of Russell’s work commitments, which saw him spending months apart from Sydney-based Danielle.

It is her loneliness that friends say prompted her to end the relationship and purchase a $12 million home in Rose Bay, Sydney for her and their sons. A source close to the actor says Russell is “devastated” about the split.

Cracks began to show in the relationship when Danielle appeared on the Australian version of Dancing with the Stars earlier this year. Teaming up with Perth-born dancer Damian Whitewood, many commented on Danielle’s on-screen chemistry with him, and the pair were also spotted canoodling on a night out.

Danielle’s \’Dancing with the Stars\’ partner Damian denies being behind the couple’s split.

Damian has denied he had an affair with Danielle. “I’m not the other man, never have been, never will be,” he told an Australian news channel.

Russell and Danielle first met 22 years ago on the set of The Crossing, but only got together years later. After their wedding in 2003, Russell said he had wanted to marry Danielle from the first moment he met her. “I’d been thinking about it for a long time.”
