Richie McCaw gets suited for the coronation

The former All Black captain readies himself for the biggest event of the year

Former All Black captain Richie McCaw has found an outfit ‘fit for the King’ according to wife Gemma McCaw.

The former Black Stick shared a video to her social media showing the rugby legend getting fitted for a morning suit for the coronation. The outfit is made up of a pair of grey striped trousers, a white dress shirt, grey waistcoat and black morning coat with a silk tie, though a black bow tie was tried on ‘just for fun’.

McCaw is attending the coronation as a member of the 15 strong delegation representing New Zealand at King Charles’ coronation in May.

Attending as a recipient of the Order of New Zealand, McCaw was the youngest person ever to ever be awarded this honour in 2015. The ONZ is a higher honour than knighthood, and is awarded for “outstanding service to the Crown and people of New Zealand in a civil or military capacity.”

Other New Zealanders attending the coronation of King Charles include: Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, Governor-General Dame Cindy Kiro, High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Phil Goff, Leader of the Opposition Christopher Luxon, Victoria Cross representative Willie Apiata, New Zealand Cross representative Abdul Aziz and the Māori King Kīngi Tuheitia and his wife Makau Ariki Atawhai.

Richie’s wife Gemma will be staying home in Christchurch having just give birth to the couple’s third child Ella at the start of April. Despite that, she said she was ‘very excited for Rich to attend’ in an Instagram post.
