The series focuses on three illegitimate children out to claim the fortune of one of New Zealand’s wealthiest men, John Truebridge. Miriama Smith plays John’s ambitious second wife Brady, who is battling to get her fair share of the spoils along with her stepson John Jnr (played by Josh McKenzie of Shortland Street).

Alex Tarrant (When We Go To War) stars as Joe, one of John Snr’s illegitimate children who is shocked to find out about his true parentage. Taylor Hall and Emma Fenton also make their debut as the two other children, easy-going but secretive Vader and wily, beautiful Savannah, respectively.

The show comes from Kiwi writers Rachel Lang and Gavin Strawhan (Outrageous Fortune, Go Girls and Nothing Trivial) and is produced by Steven Zanoski (Shortland Street).

“I’m delighted with this incredible cast and crew, who joined us a lot earlier than most productions to collaborate on a unique look and feel for the show,” Mr Zanoski said in a statement.

Stuff reports the show received $8.25 million in funding from New Zealand On Air – the largest amount ever given to a single series.

“Filthy Productions and everyone involved have done a fantastic job in making Filthy Rich an addictive, top quality, bold new series. We cannot wait to bring this show to TV2 viewers,” said TVNZ Head of Content Jeff Latch.
