Speaking to Ellen DeGeneres, the mother-of-two held back tears as she said the attack had changed who she was – for the better.

“I feel like that was so meant to happen to me. I’m such a different person,” she said.

“I really feel like things happen in your life to teach you things. I was definitely materialistic before – and not that there’s anything bad with having things and working hard to get those things, and I’m really proud of everyone around me that’s successful, but I’m so happy that my kids get this me, and that this is who [I am] raising my kids,” she continued.

“I don’t care about that stuff anymore. I really don’t… I don’t care to show off the way that I used to.”

The reality star, who was in Paris for Fashion Week when the horrifying robbery occurred, had more than US$10 million (NZ$14 million) in jewellery stolen from her after thieves broke into the lavish Paris hotel complex where she was staying.

Upon hearing the news, Kim’s husband Kanye West abruptly walked out of a New York performance in order to be by his wife’s side. Police later arrested 17 suspects in connection with the robbery, with 10 being indicted.

Over the course of the investigation, Kim said she was told the robbers had been following her movements for two years prior to the incident, taking note of all the jewellery she mentioned or spoke about publicly.

Since then, Kim revealed, she had yet to feel comfortable wearing any real jewellery again and had changed her travel arrangements so that security was always present outside her door.

Looking back on the incident now, Kim said, she was grateful to have escaped with her life.

“It could have been way worse … I’m out, I’m home, I’m safe, I’m such a better person. It’s okay,” she said tearfully.
